These two lovebirds are tying the knot next month, so in the meantime, let's check out their engagement photos! Aus and I had so much fun with these two. They came prepared with yummy korean snacks and iced red bulls!!!

Esther is a girl after my own heart with these gorgeous dresses! I took one look at her outfits and I said, Ok! we're doing all of them!!! I cannot wait to see this girl in her wedding dress.

Esther + Kevin looked so amazing that I had such a hard time narrowing down all my favorites!  So I'll be posting more of these exclusively on my Facebook fanpage very soon!

Thanks again to the amazing Hair + Makeup by Nicole DeAnne!

Meet Miss Reagan! She is a gorgeous girl with a name to match. These photos were taken at 5 weeks and yet she is pretty awesome at tummy time. Look at her posing with her head held high! I'm kind of obsessed with her lashes in the last photo!

Janice mentioned that she's always been a strong girl. She could tell by Reagan's kicks from inside her tummy. I hope she continues to grow up beautiful and strong. And I have to say, seeing Andy become a big ball of mush for his daughter during the shoot made me so emotional. She's going to be such a daddy's little girl!

Kelsey + Jake have the cutest proposal story involving their cat Jefe and a ring tied around his neck! I'm such a sucker for proposal stories! And I definitely have to give it to Jake for the champagne diamond he got her! Absolutely gorgeous. Ring shot to come after the wedding!

Anyways, I was super-psyched to photograph them because I knew they'd come in style. And check out Kelsey's killer green eyes. Love!!! We got lucky that their e-shoot was scheduled when cherry blossoms were in full bloom. All in all, we had great fun shooting and hanging out. We can't wait for their vintage inspired wedding!

As long as this post is, there's a part deux coming up next so stay tuned!

We knew Mrs. Beagle for all of 15 minutes before we shot these photos of her, but we quickly fell in love with her sweet southern charm.  That would have been enough for us to enjoy spending the afternoon taking pictures of her.  She mentioned that she had never really had her makeup/hair done professionally, nor "modeled" for photos.  But boy was she a natural in front of the camera! She's seriously so stunning with those captivating brown eyes.. Lucky you, Mr. Beagle!

Also, check out those fierce red heels. FIERCE!

As mentioned before, we had some fun with veils. The last photo is a flower headpiece by Mikiye on Etsy that I wore for my wedding. With leftover tulle from my bridal shower draped over her face as a veil. A little goes a long way when you're a bride. You don't need to be over the top to be beautiful. The gorgeous birdcage veil was made by Dorene of Unveiled Bridal Designs! Again, flawless makeup by the talented and lovely Miss Anne Ortega!!! She'll make you look like perfection. And we were so glad to have the lovely Serena Grace come along to shoot with us.

My mom used to make dresses for my Barbies when I was a little girl. So following tradition, I decided to make a Barbie-sized replica of my wedding dress for little Punky (my niece). After two days of measuring, pattern-making, and sewing, it turns out that I actually learned something in fashion school. Turns out the hardest part here was getting Barbie to stand upright for the photos.

Mark and Sarah are getting married very, very soon! It's so cute to see how different couples can be so perfect for each other. Mark seems to embody that strong manly man who takes care of his woman. He actually reminds me of a Chinese actor. Can you guess which one?

So excited for them! I'm anxious to see the stunning bride in her wedding heels!!! And how gorgeous is Sarah's beauty mark? Perfectly placed on her lip. Love it.

Remember Michelle and John?  Austin and I had such a great time recording their wedding in San Francisco with still images captured through a camera.  What you might not know is that John brought a vintage 8mm video camera along that weekend.  Along with his groomsmen, they captured some amazing "moving pictures". There's just something about 8mm film that is so romantic.  So when I finally got to see the video John put together, I was totally blown away (not to mention sad that we didn't have 8mm footage at our wedding).  John did such a fantastic job editing the footage.  He even blended some of our still images into the wedding video!  And how could you go wrong when you throw in a little bit of old school PM Dawn?

Happy Halloween from the Tsai's!

Austin and I did some pumpkin carving with some friends. Usually we do triangle eyes and square teeth, but we got a little ambitious this year. Check out Austin's MJ Thriller and my Wild Thing! We hope you revisit your childhood memories with lots of sugary sweets. Have a safe and happy Halloween!

Love,

I do not believe you could have done a better job in this photo. I LOVE the amount of detail you have of her veil (I think thats what its called =P). I love how even parts of the veil that are not sharp still hold its detail in the entire image showing how delicate that article of clothing is. and that hair piece.. WOW. I think this girl is the only one that can pull that off and you were able to show that in your picture. AMAZING! Jean, I think you need to teach me now. Terry and Mai had a mainland reception the week before taking off for their ceremony in Hawaii. Here we have some photos from the big day before the big day. But before we talk about anything else, don't you just LOVE Mai's dress?! I mean, GORGEOUS!!! Beautiful detailing, with a dreamy hemline, and a perfect fit. Not what you'd expect from a $150 rental. She mentioned that you could even get a brand-new dress rental for only $100 more.

Might I point out that my dress-cleaning alone cost $150. Amazing. AMAZING!!! Put me to shame, woman.

Terry didn't look too shabby either. I loved the contrast detail on his collar. I have to say, their friends did a great job of floral arrangements, and set-up for the lovely couple. Terry's dad even baked the delightful strawberry cake, which I refused to share with Austin. And last but not least, they got an elegant black photobooth from shutterbooth for entertaining guests! All in all, two thumbs up!

The Groom:

To be VERY sincere, I really feel like Mai & I got orders of magnitude more than what we expected, honestly. I am truly grateful that we had your "eye" capture our special day.

People that know me well, know that I can always criticize something [or someone] constructively. And the only thing I can criticize about your work is that it is too damn good. ;)

You have a gift Jean, please don't take it for granted. My two cents: focus on expressing your vision & creativity, not on how your work will be recognized. Your art will speak for itself.

(10.20.09)
KC:

Do you know where she got her dress? It's just GORGEOUS

(11.10.09)
Jean Tsai:

Yes, the dress is really gorgeous and so detailed. You wouldn't believe it! And it photographed so well. The bride told me about the place. Here are the details:

I got the dress rental from Elegant Bridal-Tuxedos-Florist in Westminster. It's very affordable in OC compared to our area. I rented it for $150. If brides want a brand new dress rental, it just costs another $100 extra, which is still great. You don't have to dry clean it either, just bring it back as it is. Tux rentals start at $60 (includes everything down to the shoes). In case you know of any brides to be, you can refer them there.

Hope that helps! Good luck :)

I've been following your blog for some time now, and I am so impressed! I had a specific question: Would you by any chance know where Mai got her bridesmaid's dresses?

Had the pleasure of going to another one of Dean's amazing themed parties. Last time was the Monster's Ball. I didn't expect people to be ALL decked out in costume, especially since that was in the middle of April! But this time, for the 50's and 80's theme, Austin tried to be Crybaby, and I even threw on an 80's girl outfit myself ;) Yea ok, I had to google "80's girl" to get some ideas. Not all of us knew how to be cool in the 80's!

The party was awesome and running into familiar faces, Dean, Andam, and Calvin, was awesome too. Here are a few of my favorites from the night! The last shot of me and huz was a timer shot.

FIRST! :) when I first saw these photos, the 2nd picture caught my eye instantly! I loove this shot! I remember some dance pictures you had before when you first got your 5D I believe and you caught some cool lighting in the room but you never really single out any one person in a shot. Though only 1 person, You've really captured the emotion and vibe of the whole party in a single image! plus you didn't catch her in an awkward dance pose! A++ for that! I also love the B&W Over head shot of the DJ. Though the color version really carries out your style of shooting, the B&W gives it a much more underground loook. GREAT JOB! Bring me with you next time when I too will somday have a 5D!! =P

I'm just getting to know Sarah, but she is a darling little baby. During her last 14-day stay at the hospital, even with an IV needle taped to her entire arm, she would look up from her fluorescent-lit hospital bed and smile at us. She just lights up when her mommy and daddy play with her. You can already tell that she is so loved.

Congrats Sarah, Walt & Ange on going home.
